    March 7, 2024 - -- popped and poured on Day 1 --
-- tasted non-blind over about 1 hr. on Day 1; revisited on Day 2 --

NOSE: very light Nose, on both Day 1 and 2; ginger, gooseberry, lemongrass, and sweet tarts.

BODY: very pale green-yellow color; light to medium-light bodied.

TASTE: holeee --- yowza!! Right out the gates with electric incredible! Gooseberry and white grapefruit galore! Gooseberry skin and light Granny Smith apple sourness/tannin presence; high acidity; plenty concentration of flavor, yet only 11% abv; alc. not noticeable; this does drink on the sweet end of trocken; high-quality 1er quality --- around Burklin-Wolf P.C.s's level; moreish, to put it lightly --- more accurately, addictive. Ridiculously awesome to drink, even if -- objectively -- it doesn't hit the highest of heights --- but here on Day 1, I'm forcing myself to not drink the entire bottle by myself, and am saving some for Day 2. Day 1 hedonistic gut impression score: 94 - 97. Day 2: back on Earth now: not as vivacious as Day 1, and I honestly don't know if it's the wine, me, or both that have shifted somewhat over the past 24 hrs. Moving down to a hedonistic gut impression score of 92 - 95, with a more thoughtful score of 92, below. Most definitely will be buying again, with a strong chance of being an annual buy from here on out.

    50, 5, 11, 18, 8 = 92

February 29, 2024 - Acid Compass #4-Ft Vom Boden wines (and friends) with Jon Ritchie (E&R Wines, Portland OR): The nose is electric and filled with delicious tension as it permeates in the glass with tones of pears, green apples, saline, crushed rocks, fresh herbs, white fruits, white flowers, and some melon notes. There is good depth with a real verve to the tones that keeps bringing my nose back to the glass. The Lighter bodied feel has some weight for a Kabinett while still showing off a deftness along with tart, high acidity that also shows off some of the tension of the nose. This is a lot of fun and a real tasty Kabinett. This certainly can age, but it would sure be a shame to not enjoy what it brings right now.

January 6, 2024 - Drinking my first bottle of 2022 from the great Ulli Stein and I was not disappointed. I love the wines from the old vines of the Palmberg vineyard. The wines, like the vineyard seem to be as if they were chiseled from solid rock.
This wine was so alive and fresh that I was immediately drawn into what it had to say. Delicious notes of ginger infused lemons and limes on a palate that had prickly acidity and a crystalline minerality that made this almost crunchy in its core.
This was so elegant and beautifully pure. With air the edges rounded a touch and started to show bergamot that softened unto satsuma mandarin.
Ulli Stein is one of a kind and his wines reflect that soulful and artistic spirit.
