December 16, 2021 - Guys Night Out - Holiday Edition!: First wine in a great lineup! What an awesome start! Lovely nose full of earth, pencil shavings, some cedar, some purple flowers and some dark fruit. Palate was more tertiary, with rich earthy notes, graphite, tobacco and tar, with some dark fruit and blue fruit and hints of spice and sweet oak. Palate was smooth, with tannins well rounded and well integrated. A great older Bordeaux! I admit, I was quite impressed that 1985 wines would hold up this well and this long! I remember first tasting them and thinking they will be short-term wines....glad my first impression was wrong! A solid 95 tonight....group's #2, my #3 (by a smidge).

December 16, 2021 - A Guys Night to Remember (Jason's house): Cherry, violets, clean funk. Wonderfully floral, nice acidity that I can even smell, graphite and pencil lead. This has the qualities of a well-aged bordeaux and is also quite lively.

December 16, 2021 - Guys Night Out: One to Remember - Heavy Hitters (Jason P's, St. Paul, MN): Very dark red color with a 5mm transition. Splash double decanted; drank a glass plus over 3 hours. Geez this was showing great. Gorgeous purple and blue fruits of cassis and boysenberry, wow; deep violet notes, ultra floral with a lifted perfume that adds leather, pencil, cigar wrapper and incense. The palate shows outstanding depth and harmony; damp earth, funk, leather, cassis, this is pencil city, coarse tobacco, and a lot of leather with impressive length and on some well rounded and polished tannins that can go for some time. This has it all, very complex and showing all the secondary and tertiary character you could ask for yet still having that exuberance that says, wait, just wait, I've got more to show you. 96+ to 97pts.

December 4, 2021 - Reached its peak at 2~4 hours in decanter after opening.
    Graphite dominant on the nose.
Mainly cassis and some smoke from tobacco forming the backbone, minerality and spices, mainly oriental, showes this bottle was very well made. Silky on the palate as milk mixed with a hint of cream. Elegance and balance between the characters are, in my opinion, what makes Bordeaux such a great region.
The wine is straightforward yet complex, for it is produced by one of the greatest chateaux of Bordeaux.

November 20, 2021 - Great nose of cassis, graphite and tobacco. Generous dark fruit and silky texture with well balanced tannins. Still very vigorous and drinking very well at the moment.

(Château Léoville Las Cases) Group's #8 (my #5) – 38 pts; 0, 0, 0, 2 – Dark garnet red color; funky nose on opening, that largely cleaned up to a cassis and herbal nose with a green note, and a possible touch of TCA; tart red fruit, menthol and herbal palate with tobacco edges; medium finish

(Leoville-Las Cases) This wine brought the funk into overdrive. Brett, horse, vivid cassis and mineral on the nose. The palate was brilliant with concentrated flavors, brett running throughout but not too much and perfectly integrated with the rest of the wine. Great texture. Finish was explosive and pure. The wine was just so complete. Fantastic and the last "real" LLC as after that they got the first reverse osmosis machine in Bordeaux and the rest is a sad sad history.
