December 31, 2023 - This is an excellent & elegant bottle of wine. Took to Balvanera ($40 corkage - what a rip off - but really good food). Competed with an '82 Bordeaux and blew it away. Old world nose, good but not spectacular, very integrated deep wine, pairs well with food, nice somewhat delicate finish.

July 23, 2023 - 1/1, vg cork, decanted 1/2 hr. Deep garnet core, very narrow pale garnet rim. Nose is rich, with blackcurrant, hint of chocolate, some development here too with earth and tobacco in particular, some meaty notes. Full bodied, rich dark fruit, touch of chocolate again, soil, soft tannins, attractve balancing fresh acdiity, long, harmoniouis finish with just a touch of herb. This is lovely and drinking well, though there's no hurry to drink up - to at least 2030.

July 23, 2023 - I am a fan of Almaviva and the 2001 is one of the many reasons why…. It a fabulous example of a ripe, opulent, full bodied wine.
This bottle is in a excellent place right now. No decant. A bit shy at the beginning but immediately enjoyable. Deep dark color, the nose Cabernet dominated. A fantastic bouquet of black currant, blueberries, espresso, leather, toast, vanilla. A marvelous, thick and velvet texture. Very long and very silky finish with decent and noble tannins. Will hold an estimated 5 more years. -

January 4, 2023 - Great. Rich dark unique flavors of old saddle, wet forest, cedar. At 1st sip I thought it might be too big and overdone, but it quickly became medium bodied and perfectly balanced. Powerful but not overpowering. Easy and smooth on palate. Very old world with Chilean hint. One of the best wines I've ever had. Bought for $50 in 2005, been in cellar for 17 years. Just a hint of maturity, could have gone longer, but couldn't get better. Christmas eve dinner.

June 4, 2022 - Wonderfully drinking wine with Eucalyptus aromas on the nose, a medium-full body, and a pleasing finish. Was drank side by side with the 2003 Almaviva after decanting, and it was the better of the two vintages. This wine has several more years to go - but is drinking exceptionally well now.
