Community Tasting Notes 2

January 23, 2024 - Leftover from my wife's book club. I was curious about the blend of malbec and merlot. Dark red, lots of fruit and pretty tasty if not terribly complex. From other users it looks like this goes for less than $10, and at that price it's a nice weeknight quaff.

November 29, 2023 - Impulse purchase @ Costco I had tried the 2018 vintage and thought I'd give it another go.
    13.5% abv - $8

Served (aerated, 1-hour decant) over two nights; with Shepard's Pie and Meat Tortellini.

Dark purplish red on the pour; densely colored, semi opaque in the glass. Dark red fruit on the nose. Blackberry and Raspberry on the palate. Full bodied and Hearty, wine exhibited a certain harshness with a slightly sour/bitter taste. Tannins left a little fuzziness on the tooth, Ample acidity and llingering finish. Not particularly impressed, I thought perhaps 85-86 points. On the second day wine characteristics had improved. The wine had smoothed out and the harshness experienced the previous night had largely dissipated, yet still a touch 'woody.' Spouse commented (unsolicited) she liked the wine (an endorsement absent the prior day).

Tasting by Wine Magazine (publicly available) suggests drinking from 2025, indicating he thinks there may be some ageing potential.
