February 10, 2009 - What better to drink on a night when going into the cellar to grab some frozen Trader Joe's goodies for dinner. This is a surprisingly good wine for a Michigan wine, and I would put it against any NJ wine and day of the week. This is a good Bordeaux blend, considering that I expected the worst, but this was actually a real pleasure to drink. Plummy nose with very heavy hints of tar, and the slightest hint of strawberry. On the palate, more strawberry and plum, with a slight bit of tannins, and a very soft, but short finish. This isn't a bad wine in the least, and was a nice surprise. Thanks MeCarter for the donation to our cellar. Cheers!

Tasting Notes: The 2003 Meritage is an immense, powerful wine, rich and hearty, with wonderful aromas of ripe plum, raspberry and blackberry. The combination of American and French oak entangle spicy, earthy scents with a solid core of black fruit flavor. It packs the requisite dense core of tannins, but also some striking notes of vanilla. Drinkable now but will cellar well through 2013.
