September 11, 2020 - Pulled to relax with. Gone are the brawny tannins, black fruit, spice, vanilla.

April 11, 2014 - Probably the best showing I've had of this wine. Still huge, brooding black fruits throughout with touches of currant, spice, and an herb hint here & there. Not as chewy (a good thing) but still round & mouthfilling. Good length, where the black & red & purple fruits intermingle with spices and ample supporting acid.

March 2, 2013 - Domaine Wine Storage Saturday BYOB (Domaine Wine Storage (Chicago)): I enjoyed this wine. Again, it's not for everyone, but my palate was in the mood for a big blockbuster. I do believe it had nice acidity and wasn't too much.
Spicy and a little hot on the nose, yes, but it came into harmony on the palate. Big and juicy. Blue fruit. Delicious quality.

March 2, 2013 - Another Saturday at Domaine (Domaine Wine Storage, Chicago IL): Nose: While this is on the rich and massive side, it is a lot more rounded than before with big tones of black fruits, road tar, spice, black cherries, and some liqueur tones.

Taste: Full bodied with some chewy tannins. The tones of black fruits, spices, black cherries, and liqueur are in the rich category, but they aren't completely overdone.

Overall: This has smoothed out over the years, but it hasn't exactly developed per se.

November 22, 2011 - This followed a pretty bit Zin (2006 Turley Atlas Peak), and didn't disappoint in terms of another good big wine as followup. There's not a real sense of precision on this wine at present. It still remains big, first and foremost. On the nose, dark fruit, cassis and a vanilla oak. The vanilla/oak is somewhat diminished compared to a much earlier tasting, but still very much present. On the palate, thick but with a surprising note of acidic balance. Forward in style, I would characterize this as a a hedonistic crowd pleaser. There's probably cheaper ways to get to the same place, so I don't count this as a tremendous QPR, but nevertheless, a very nice wine if you're in the mood for the style. With a few more bottles left, I'm curious to see how this evolves. For now, it has mellowed to a degree that makes this a better wine than when I tasted it nearer the release date.
