February 16, 2021 - I frequently find that I have stored a previously highly rated wine well past it’s optimal drink date. How incredibly annoying! Such is the case with this beauty! However, it was well cared for and stored well if not optimally. I stumbled upon the early Marquis Philips label thanks to the Wine Advocate and my ongoing search for really good to great wines at a reasonable price given my budget at the time. I bought this one upon retail release and obviously kept it past the suggested optimal drink date! So, here is my opinion: it is still a very, very enjoyable wine. IMHO, it is pretty clear to me this is clearly an Aussie Cabernet based wine made by brilliant wine makers! The cork was surprisingly dry and ultimately crumbled. Nevertheless, I was able to strain and drink with considerable enjoyment! The bouquet was less than exhilarating, however the palate was really quite complex and enjoyable.

May 27, 2020 - These wines are usually meant to drink young so my expectations were very low as it has been buried in my cellar for years. I was ,however, pleasantly surprised how good it was. Deep purple color with casis and black fruit.

June 8, 2018 - Picked this up recently at WineX, who got them direct from the producer, I understand. I had not had this in its youth, but was curious what an "Aussie fruit bomb" from days past had transformed into.
Cork was very crumbly and left lots of pieces in the wine, so I decanted. I used a waiter's corkscrew, so perhaps an Ah-so would have been a better choice.
Tasted over two days (small portion in an open decanter overnight), and there was no significant change.
In any case, the nose showed a bit of a medicinal quality and some toasted oak notes along with a bit of sulfur. A little off-putting, but this mostly blew off but was still not a strong point of this wine.
On the palate, a roasted note was prominent and not a quality I enjoy, though many seem to like it. There was still plenty of fruit but was not a jammy fruit bomb and it had an aged feel to it. Mouthfeel is pretty heavy and dense. Still, not anything like a classic aged Bordeaux, but overall, I enjoyed the experience. At $25/btl, I'm not buying more, but I'm not a fan of this boisterous style in general. I think those who like these large-scaled, fruity Cabs will enjoy this aged version as well.

January 20, 2016 - Still an Excellent wine. This wine continues to surprise and delight me. At 15 years young, this wine was at least as good as the '99 Cinq Cepages we had last night. Maybe not as much depth, but it had more fruit, more weight and overall better structure. Very smooth, no rough edges at all. Sadly this was our last bottle, but what wonderful memories we have had from the 2 cases we bought long ago. A blockbuster $22 wine!

September 9, 2014 - It's been a few years, so I thought I'd check and see how these were doing. Surprisingly, this bottle is still very similar to the notes I made 2 years ago. It does have a more 'dusty' taste to it now, and some bricking along the edges. Tannins are still present, acidity holding up, more dry than sweet. Still lots of dark fruit, licorice, and cedar notes. Actually improved during our 2 hour drinking window. This puppy just may make it to RP's 2017 date, but no need to wait - drink if you have them.
