Community Tasting Notes 6

  • Eudemis Likes this wine:

August 13, 2019 - 14.5% alcohol. Good long cork with a fair bit of elasticity.
The colour is dark. Rich raisiny aromas. No direct oak influence.
The mouth is equally rich, indeed nearly saturating the palate at times, but it manages not to be completely off balance by dint of a superb acidity in the finish, and pretty good grip too.
Certainly an indulgent drink, but a very enjoyable one too and a repeat purchase.
At maturity but looks like it will last another five to ten years without problem.

January 2, 2017 - At 14.5% alcohol, this is a big bone wine, but not an unbalanced one. Indeed the acidity gives it grip and structure, and there is no shortage of fruit. The oak is integrated. A success of its type then, but not for the faint-hearted. Can age a good few extra years. Pairing with food requires some care if the wine is not to dominate unduly. For me, beef is the ideal partner. An excellent winter wine.

June 2, 2012 - Decanted 3 hours. Very spicy and dense nose. Pepper, tobacco. Still very closed and only the last sips gave some clue to fruit. Blackberries. Tannins very rough at this stage. Still need many years, but have my doubts if this will come around nice.

August 28, 2011 - this one could have stayed in the bottle for another 5-10 years. Good match for a Peking duck.

May 29, 2010 - Wine Pages Dublin Offline (Ely CHQ, Dublin, Ireland): Closed down. Solid wine with plenty of backbone for the medium haul. Probably not young or old enough to be opened at this stage of its development.
