November 5, 2016 - Dried cherries. Likely past its prime. Took over an hr to open up.

April 22, 2014 - Tuesday Night Double Blind <$30 (Bin 75): See through crimson with orange red rim; soy, caraway, sour red cherry, orange, dusty; copper, rusty, older, a little past peak for me, acidity is out of whack a bit then the hard tannins come in, cedar, sour cherry, orange finish; drink now; called '07 Il Poggione Rosso but that had less tannin.

November 24, 2013 - very similar to previous review last year. still requires a full hour to really open up. nose of cherry, leather, mushrooms and a hint of dark chocolate. tannins are still gripping with cherry, smoke, cedar, and lavender. good acidity and smooth medium-plus finish. this is still drinking well and has 5 yrs or so left. this wine really comes to life when paired with food.

January 23, 2013 - Called 2004 Poggione RdM double blind. Initially it was slightly disjointed (I thought from age) but still blowing classic sangiovese. Dried red fruit, cedar, aged, light mouthfeel, some alcohol showing, good acid. After an hour this wine came together. I'm sure this wine will go another few years in a cold cellar, but I would prefer to open this now.

November 24, 2012 - lots of ripe cherry on the nose with some vegital tones. opens well after 1 hr decant. still showing development in the bottle from last year. soft round mouth feel with good acidity and dusty tannins. cherry and leather through midpalate with a nice balance and round tannins. this wine is is much more expressive with food. paired with baked ziti with italian sausage meat sauce.
