March 16, 2024 - This vintage is very tart, it may need more time to lay down. My first impression is not great, especially compared to previous vintages. It's missing some of the refinement I've come to expect from Stag's Leap District. There's a yeasty nose, and some rather strong leathery notes. Perhaps it's an off bottle? I'll add more notes after some air time, drinking at 68F, perhaps I should chill it off a bit?
2 days later, I am amending my score to 90(from 88). I pumped it down and chilled it to 60F and it improved. I honestly think this wine needs to lay down a year or two so I'll revisit in the future and drink slightly chilled.
