  January 7, 2015 - Nose and palate of blackberry, dark cherry, plum, dark earth, tar, and black pepper. A rather old world expression of syrah. Sufficient tannin and dark flavors that this wine will last for some time yet. I was positively surprised by this wine at this point in its life.

Developing nose; sweet red berry fruit; I reckon the sweet apricot hint of the viognier is very overt after the purity of the Factor; there’s also blueberry and cinnamon here. It’s full-bodied, with a sweet stewed apricot fruit character; quite confected in fact. The palate is firm and tight; it has medium gritty tannins, lots of mid-palate weight, and seems to need a lot more time to show proper tertiary characters. Not too hot; medium length finish.   February 5, 2013 - The tannins are largely resolved, yet the wine carries adequate acidity to provide structure. Fragrant, largely dark fruits with some Northern Rhone undercurrents on the nose and palate: floral, a bit of black olive, perhaps a hint of blood. medium plus finish. This was a very enjoyable bottle of wine.

  April 4, 2010 - Dinner at Brasa, Raleigh, NC. Still primarily purple in color with some shading towards violet occuring. Of course Torbreck is not your average Aussie Shiraz, but this certainly proves that some of them can age quite gracefully. I have always found Torbreck to have a French streak in it's winemaking that is married to incredibly pure fruit. A great way to express the Barossa's terroir. Drinking younger than it's age would lead you to believe this has shed tannins but is still about pure dark fruit, mostly in the blackberry range. A big muscular wine that you feel when you get up to leave the restaurant but again married to a certain level of French restraint that keeps the wine just on the proper side of being too big and bold. The most interesting bottle of Shiraz I've had in at least a year and one that renews my faith in the "right" Shirazes for my tastes. Should drink well for another 5 years at least and is a real pleasure today. Needless to say this was a very good pairing with the Brazilian steakhouse meat selection. 50+13+13+8.5+8.5 = 93
