January 6, 2009 - Great dolcetto. First, you had an old leather satchel that was being used to store pipe tobacco. You used it over the years to store various herbs: rosemary, menthol, fennel seed. Today, you put freshly crushed plums, currants, and dark cherries in there. Yum. Mercy insists there is prune there, but I don't believe it. Decanted for a few hours. Enough tannins to allow for further aging. Bartolo, you rock!

July 22, 2008 - BBQ Night at Keith's; 7/20/2008-7/22/2008 (NYC): honestly i dont like the grape. but then there are wines that make you rethink that. Roagna Dolcetto is one - an old world light and soft food wine. and then there is this. a big boy (and at $30 not cheap) but BIG brawny... jammy fruit on the nose - Aussie shiraz??? but the palatte is balanced and though rich in black fruit, also has a lovely acidity and great tannin. this is a wine to put away - let the nosesubside and the clean fruit underneath show through. excellent.

June 26, 2008 - This is pure joy! Delicious fruit and perfect structure.

May 1, 2008 - Deep purple. Lots going on aromatically-balsam wood, herbs, licorice, and blackberry. The nose does not really prepare you for a very round entry with some alcoholic heat, but again, the fruit here is definitely on the darker side. Finish is cut off by tarry licorice and tobacco flavors. No cheery Dolcetto this! My only quibble here is with the apparent alcohol that throws off the balance a bit, but overall, still very good with unusual depth and complexity.
