Community Tasting Notes 10

  • Pomum Likes this wine:

May 16, 2013 - From library. Opened and poured. No decant. Heavy secondary aromatics including soy, bacon fat and forest floor. Still showing some dark cherry fruit. Soft tannin and balanced throughout. Elegant finish. If fruit is what you seek drink now. Otherwise secondary aromatics will likely continue to develop for a couple more years.

March 28, 2011 - Popped and poured. Paired with a bowl of fresh carbonara pasta (home cured guanciale really makes the dish). Nose was a bit closed at first, but opened up throughout the evening to reveal aromas of blackberries, wet stone, cedar and a floral note. The palate started off with lots of mineral flavors and tart fruits (cranberry) then shifted in the end to have a very sweet red cherry flavor. The acid really stood out tonight as it just wiped the palate clean of the rich pork and egg flavors of dinner after each sip. Finish was medium length. Really at a great point right now with no signs of heading downhill. Would purchase again.

June 22, 2010 - Popped and poured and it seemed ready to go straight away.

Nose has some white pepper, and some good fruit, more dark than red.

The pallet was typical of this winery: plush, full and soft. Lots of fruit with good length and a nice finish. There are some nice lingering pepper notes on the finish and it lingers a decently long time.

    Would buy again. Very nice.

December 19, 2009 - Brought to local restaurant, Serratto, and enjoyed with a tagliatelli with wild boar ragu, and my girlfriend had a baked mac & cheese. Definitely not on par with the previous bottle of this. Perhaps poor storage (local grocery store purchase), but this wine seemed dead. Not a lot of flavor, not the amount of pepper as before and a sour cherry finish that wasn't the best.

November 8, 2009 - Popped and poured. Deep purple core with a bright magenta rim. Nose had the requisite dark fruit, but what made this really interesting were notes of iodine and salinity. You could tell that this wine saw time in oak, but it was balanced within the other aromas. Silky texture on the palate. Flavors of blackberry, freshly cracked pepercorns and subtle baking spices. Finish lingered on and on. Very nice bottle of wine. Would purchase again.

(Pomum Syrah) #2; COLOR-dark; NOSE-Rhone-like; little pepper; roasted red peppers; pretty cherry component coming through as well; good, good nose; TASTE-big fruit; a little over-the-top & Aussie-like; lot of red licorice; red cassis; a little sweet for me on the back-end; it's OK; solid & really well made, but text book syrah; extremely good, many would like; doesn't go completely over-the-top; it's balanced and well-made, but no charisma for me; GV-90
