Community Tasting Notes 3

January 24, 2016 - Red fruit (cherry), nice spice, slight floral. Minerality. Good acidity. Some tannins. But pretty open. Really enjoyable.

April 21, 2009 - Ruby red turning to watermelon at the rim with medium thin legs in the glass. Very interesting and high toned on the nose, which oozes animale aromas, musk, fresh earth, meat, herbs, and fresh cherry. The nose is actually quite magnificent and complex in light of my expectations. The palate has fresh acidity with flavors of crushed cherry, minerals, and spices, leading into a nice raspberry tinged finish. The texture is supple initially but leads into some gripping tannins near the finish. This producer may not get much respect but this wine is a great value if you are looking for a pure (albeit slightly rustic) expression of terroir. Seems to be closing down after three or four hours.

March 1, 2009 - Popped and poured and then finished over three days with interval storage in the fridge. COLOR: Black cherry jello, before it sets - and just as much clarity. I could read the paper through it. NOSE: Not much, even after three days and warming to room temperature. TASTE: Began thin and watery and tannic. It smoothed out over the next two days and developed some fruitiness, but had a green undertone - stems, or unripe fruit - and a short finish. OVERALL: This wine had very little substance and not much more potential. It was certainly easy to drink and not a bad QPR, but there are far better choices in this price range. (4+9+13+6)
