January 20, 2018 - Similar to previous note. Drinking well. Old-world style. Delicious.

November 1, 2017 - This was a different wine than the one I had a year and a half ago. Perhaps the earlier one was just "off". DoubleMagnum, I agree with your review. Dark fruit and earthy nuances emerging. Enjoyable bottle, paired with a 2010 Willamette pinot.

December 7, 2016 - The cork was completely soaked. The wine actually leaked a little but the bottle must have been sealed with whatever seeped because the liquid inside was still to the top, almost to the capsule. Interestingly, this bottle was better than last. A bit more development on the tertiary side. More soil, mushroom and earthy notes and not as much red fruit as before but rather darker berries. It is weightless on the palate. Tannins are smooth and acid is medium plus. The finish could be longer. My last bottle. I'm glad I popped it. It's time to let this one go.

November 24, 2016 - Enjoyed it but this is not the same wine of two years ago. It has declined since I first drank it and I'm bringing it down two more points because it was almost muted. Some red fruit on the palate but the wood notes are more prominent. It still is lean and the tannins no longer have much grip. Luckily the acid still keeps it alive. Time to drink up, there are no signs this will improve.

Burgundy-Report

  • By Bill Nanson

(Gros Frère & Soeur Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits) Medium colour. Forward, slightly savoury fruit aromas and a tough estery. Medium concentration with some obvious barrel notes. Reasonable length. Okay, but the oak treatment leaves this slightly ’soupy’.
