February 25, 2024 - Decent. Nutty, salty with medium plus acidity. Nothing to write home about but enjoyable.

April 22, 2023 - The weird wine from Jerez strikes again. Stellar to get something like this for $40 CAD or so. 15 years of age on this bad boy. But then again, what Sherry *is* properly valued?

Pulled from the fridge 15 minutes before dinner. Nice dark golden colour. Nose is all dessert - caramel, raisin, pouding chômeur, walnut cookie, a little acetone, and of course the beautiful sea breeze you expect from sherry. As intricate as a proper dessert at your best neighbourhood restaurant.

Palate pulls a 180 and I'm not really sure how to describe it. Much more savoury with that through line of sea breeze, but a lot more spices and some roasted notes. Mouthfeel is of course quite rich and pleasantly viscous from the high alcohol, but otherwise is well integrated. Medium+ acidity makes this a good food wine, but there is so much else going on you could blink and miss it!

Overall very good, looking forward to my next Oloroso.

May 22, 2019 - What you get for the extra $10 (and 250ml less) from Emperatriz Eugenia is massive compared to the entry Don Nuno (both Oloroso). Depth, complexity, something to think about.

Mahogany caramel colored with aromas of sandalwood and sweet dates. Winey sweet palette of dried figs, golden raisins, and burnt toffee.

September 22, 2018 - Andalucia, mainly Sherry (Tradicion/Lustau/Barbadillo); 9/12/2018-9/26/2018 (Malaga-Cordoba-Carmona-Arcos-Jerez): Tasted at the bodega. Clear bright amber. Caramel and generic Madeira scent; broad medium-dry entry which develops a hint of salt towards the mid-palate. All very mezzo-piano. Bitter and rather impure caramelly finish. Not entirely pleasant. 22 Euro/50cl. 84P

August 23, 2018 - Changed my mind about oloroso

Relatively muted nose opens out into a medium-weight cornucopia of tangy spices with an underlying saltiness to create beautiful balance
    Very long chewy finish
