Community Tasting Notes 10

August 31, 2021 - Medium ruby, with significantly browning fading edges, and thick legs. Bitey tannins, and a bit of heat from the alcohol, with strong fresh grassy and leafy aromas and flavours, as well as ripe red cherry and cranberry, cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon. Still tight, with the bottle opened and decanted for an hour, whilst still a good length. Needs a few more years to show its full potential

June 16, 2021 - Not as good as previous experience. Drank from magnum. Deep ruby red color, decanted then drank over 3 hours. Much better nose than the palate perhaps due to how young the wine is. Nose of cassis, iron, rocks, leather and pencil shavings. Palate a little too rustic for a second wine of Latour, some salinity to it with good mid palate red fruit and balance and a decent finish. In need of further cellaring.

January 7, 2021 - Decanted and aerated for an hour and drank over two hours from magnum. Pristine bottle. Concentrated dark ruby color with the nose dominated by crushed rocks, dark cassis, black currants, olive tapenade, some iron and pepper fully reflected on the palate with the cassis very creamy. Acidity in perfect balance, solid structure and medium to full bodied wine, tannins quite present but soften considerably after two hours of air in the decanter. The finish is fat and peppery with some bitter chocolate notes. Quite nice for the vintage and plenty of life ahead.

November 18, 2019 - Deep ruby red color drank from magnum. Decanted and aerated for an hour and drank over 2. Initial nose of dark red currant and cassis, lots of smokiness which dissipated after an hour or so. On the palate very mineral almost saline quality to the wine, lots of gravel and glycerin coating the cassis and dark red fruits. After two hours in the decanter the wine began to open up and provably was best after 3 hours of aeration. Mid palate very dynamic, great balance and decent power, some leather and pencil lead notes. Tannic at the outside with a short dry finish but after 3 hours the tannins softened and the finish lengthened. Overall a very nice wine.

April 28, 2017 - Deep ruby but shading slightly at the rim. Big bouquet. Plums, currants, blackberries, tobacco, cedar. Still has some rough tannins that need to subside, but it's drinkable. Vegetal elements emerge on the finish.
