Community Tasting Notes 4

July 29, 2010 - Very light straw color. Nose & palate predominately green apple with some citrus and grassy notes. Crisp acidity, good minerality and a refreshing effervescence.

June 14, 2009 - I'm reminded again why I like this wine so much. Complex, crisp, fruit and minerals. Really nice with some cheese after a day of working outdoors.

April 26, 2009 - Perfect summer wine. Those accustomed to Loire Valley chenin blanc will find this surprisingly bracing; it's got the variety's typical apple flavors, but they're on the racier, green-apple side of the spectrum. In fact I couldn't help but wonder whether this juice might've made a nice Champagne-method wine. Great purity and brightness to the fruit but also nervosity. The attack is acute and tensile.

May 15, 2008 - Light lemon with a slight spritz. Vibrant nose of gooseberry and cut grass with a touch of honeysuckle. Very inviting. On the palate it's light to medium bodied, bright and somewhat soft.

New York Cork Report

  • By Lenn Thompson
    1/1/2009 (link) 3.5 out of 5 stars

(Paumanok Vineyards Chenin Blanc) The nose is complex and expressive, showing a fruit salad mélange of grapefruit, mango, pear, melon and orange blossom. A medium-bodied palate starts off fresh and clean with melon, grapefruit and mineral flavors, but as the wine crosses over into the mid-palate, the flavors change a bit, becoming richer with pineapple and honey overtones. That honeyed fruit character carries through to the finish, which is long and delicious. The texture of this wine is faintly oily but it remains lively and clean because there’s plenty of balancing acidity. In France, Chenin Blanc has shown the ability to age beautifully, and I think this one might be long-lived too. It will be interesting to see how the Stelvin closure will affect that over time.
