  December 28, 2020 - Good color with moderate bricking. The nose shows aromas of dried dark fruits, forest floor, smoky tar, pipe tobacco and flowers. This is medium bodied on the palate with very good concentration and excellent finesse. Elegant. The medium plus length finish features slightly low acidity and integrated tannins. Fresh for a wine of 56 years...

  January 30, 2013 - This bottle was certainly a fake. The bottle was not the typical Cantina Mascarello shape and this was the first time I'd seen a single vineyard designation for this producer. The cork was not Mascarello - a generic cooperativa cork and the wine inside young,fruity and nothing like any Bartolo Mascarello I'd ever had. The seller was very professional and took back the bottle and another and gave me a full refund. Did Bartolo really ever make a Cannubi or are they (if there are true Mascarello Cannubis) the product of another Mascarello? Wasserman says there is only one barolo made by Bartolo - caveat emptor.

  January 17, 2011 - The wine was simply amazing and remarkably young for 47 years in the bottle. The only sign of its age was the rusty brown hue that wines with this much age take on. A classic old world Barolo nose of the earth and climate. The wine was balanced, fresh and pure on the palate with a lengthy finish. As I sipped the wine and closed my eyes I was transported back to Piedmonte. Definitely a wine with soul.
