September 5, 2012 - This is one of the best CF's I've ever had. The cork was a bit brittle and tight - came out in two pieces. The bottom was stained just about black. No sediment on the cork but there sure was some sediment in the bottleneck. This was enjoyed as a pop and pour as it has had a few years in the bottle...and it was ready. The wine was poured into glass - dark. A "rusty rose" as the wife said. Perfume hit you strong out of the bottle. Aged floral and strong Burberry-style perfumes hit you fairly strong. Musk, pepper intermixed. On the palate was a wine that was dark, layered. Intense. Chalky, peppery up front. Full bodied darker style "funeral flower" aged yet ripe lavender flowers jumped out out of the glass. GREAT dark red fruits throughout the experience - blackberry, blueberry, boysenberry, any other kind of black colored -berry all were here - just close your eyes and imagine it. Too many layers is a good thing!!! Finished with some strong pepper, light tannin. Well integrated. As it sat out, it kind of drank more like a dense, aged Rhone valley grenache. NICE. I'd gladly horde several cases of this if I could. It was balanced, smooth, and supple - ready to drink now - likely done by 2014.
