August 20, 2017 - Henri Jayer Dinner (Ming San's): This was my early pick of the flight, before the 1999 crept-up and on it then overtook it by the end-of-the-night. The big difference between the two was probably that this wine was drinking quite at the peak of its powers, while the 1999 is just starting to pick up speed. What a lovely showing this made though, starting with a fabulous nose, with beautiful bright fruit aromas - dark cherries at the fore - along with more secondary notes of winter melon and angelica root herb, shades of toast, and nice floral hints. This just bloomed wonderfully out of the glass. The palate was bright, lively and showy, with resh, juicy red fruit that was practically tingling with energy all the way into a nice firm mid and back-palates, where the fruit was layered with more minerally tones. The wine was so delicious and went down so easily that one could have easily missed the wonderfully sinewy NSG structure underlying all that through into a full and very, very long finish. Wow.
