Community Tasting Notes 3

September 9, 2014 - At first I thought this was a flawed bottle. Initial impression was an old oxidized chardonnay with not much going on. Palate still had nice acidity but nothing but a strong nutty maybe almond flavor. After about an hour in the glass the nose and flavor really blossomed. Nose became citrusy with a nice nutty and woody note. Mouth feel was still zippy and mouth watering and flavors morphed to lemon cookies and spice. I found myself really enjoying the wine by the 3rd glass. For under $40 a bottle this was a nice experience. I would recommend drinking this ASAP. My last 4 bottles will not make it to Halloween.
Color: pale gold like a middling d'Yquem. Nose: Citrus and nuts. Mouthfeel: zippy. Flavor: lemon cookies

December 24, 2010 - The nose on this wine is extremely strange: horse sweat, barnyard, cheesy, mousy. I'm not sure if this bottle was tainted or not because after an hour the sweatiness died down and became more normal. The wine tasted good, if not a bit bland, with apples, chalky minerality, and lemon curd. The blandness died down and the taste became more pronounced at the tail-end of the bottle. We drank this within an hour and the bottle didn't even show up until the end. I highly recommend a minimum hour-long decant prior to drinking this, or you'll be disappointed. I can't score this any higher without a full-on decant.

(Vougeraie Vougeot Clos de la Prieuré Blanc) The nose is quite different to those that went before, honey and kiwi fruit - it’s super in a rather exotic way. Lots of things are happening on the palate, this is certainly the most complex and interesting wine - if less typical in style.
