June 28, 2019 - Friday Tasting Group: "Killer Bar" (#03 for me): "New World" Theme (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): N: Smokey, touch of bacon fat? Some earthiness; Intensity lurking

P: LM, poss Med, body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by just a bit of astringent pucker which fairly seamlessly evolves into a LONG, BALANCED finish with delightful, tangy/swtness to the few, dusty tannins. For now & the next 4 yrs or so? VERY nicely done! 13.5% ABV; My EXC+/Exceptional-. 97 pts Jeff Leve (3/4/14), 96 WA, & 93 WS.

May 2, 2019 - Wine of the night? Tasted among eight decent reds (Montelena Estate Cab 1987, Rayas 1998, Togni 1999 etc) and it was competing for the top spot. Opened for an hour before tasting. Still dark intense, opaque red; no sign of the 25 years. Forward and intense nose; dark red and blue fruit and tapenade. The palate is balanced, the tannins are ripe and still detectable. Finish is very long. Not sure that it will get any better, but this one is not dying yet. California made some great wines in the 1990s.

November 17, 2018 - How can a california wine be this good after 24 years? Even after 24 years, this wine still needs a decant. Dark plums, soy, savory herbs...This wine is mature, structured and still gains weight and complexity in the glass, 2 hours after pop. Started throwing scorched earth on the last 1/3 of the bottle, drinking like a good 1990 Left bank Bordeaux. This is a California wine for me baby! Drink or hold

October 5, 2018 - Should have let this open up more, as it was consumed too quickly. Still, a great balanced cab with lots of woodsy character.
