April 25, 2021 - This Hartwell Reserve was excellent. Whoever predicted the consumption window ends in 2018 really missed the boat. The tanins are still strong indicating, to me, that the window closure is more likely 2023. Decanted 2.5 hrs and served w ribeyes, the wine was, only then, starting to open. By the 4 hr mark, it was like silk in a glass. I could use a lot of typical "wine descriptive" terms, but I think you get my point...

December 12, 2020 - In a perfect drinking window. Classic Napa Cabernet notes of cassis and red currant. Seamless on the palate, well integrated. This wine is at its peak but should hold on for a couple more years.

    February 21, 2018 - Tasted blind.
Still a deep dark ruby core with just a thin hint of garnet at the very edge to give away its age.
On opening, still a bit tough at first, but opened up beautifully with an hour of air in the decanter. Oak pretty well integrated. Quite lovely.

August 6, 2015 - Certainly a solid Stags Leap cab that seems to be drinking at peak, with integrated tannins and a sense of polish. However, an '04 consumed earlier this summer was significant step up.
