Community Tasting Notes 9

February 1, 2020 - Decanted for an hour before service. Initially one-dimensional with an astringent palate. Woke up somewhat after an additional 30-40 minutes, but even then, a lot of tangy fruit on a palate-drying attack; it needs food, and seems out of balance without it. If you have any, definitely time to check in, and quite likely time to drink up.

June 3, 2017 - Didn't have access to a decanter, but opened the bottle and looted some out to open up. Really flat and muted off the batt, but opened up relatively quickly. Lots of dark red to blue fruits, even a little grape bubblegum. In line with other notes, easy drinking, good not stellar especially for the money.

February 16, 2015 - Decanted one hour before service. In the glass, dark saturated red, with the first hints of auburn at the rim, but this still looks relatively youthful. On opening, a strong medicinal note, but that blew off after a half hour to reveal currants and plums. On the palate, still quite tannic, with stone fruit, a touch of wood, and some damp earth. I think there might be some upside here, but it's going to take five more years (at least) to find out.

January 10, 2015 - decanted for about 2 hours at dinner with friends. Was disappointed considering the price point on these cabs; They shoulder deliver a lot more. there was some depth and balance, black fruit; all of us wanted a better finish; I have had better experiences with john Kongsgaard's syrahs, which are equally pricey (I think they are up to 150 per).

August 2, 2014 - Crimson. Slightly medicinal nose that, early on, shows some alcohol. The alcohol blows off, and is replaced with black cherry, moss, cedar, and tobacco. Nice weight. Opens with time. Finishes with a citrus sweet element that is distinct.
