May 5, 2015 - Apparently I like the geezers, cuz I'm enjoying this, ha! Still very dense in color w/ crimson at the very edges. Aromas of dried red and black fruits, cured meats, and minerals. Medium body, medium+ acid and finish, and flavors of dark red fruits, herbs, beef blood, and minerals. It's got a definite aged character, so if you're not into that, it's probably not for you at this point. I liked it.

January 12, 2015 - Beyond its prime and losing fruit at this point

October 5, 2013 - Dusty minerality, cherry, plum, flower blossom, cedar.
Dusty-earthy on palate, good fruit. Medium finish.

November 6, 2012 - Very dark, opaque color nearing black, with some crimson at the edges. Nose of herbs, iodine, tobacco, and darker fruit. Agree w/ the juicy plum & tart black raspberry notes on the palate, with both mineral and an herbal/garrigue/green component coming through on the medium+ finish. Drank over the entire evening (maybe 5-6 hrs.) w/out any noticeable decline on my end. Liked it.

August 25, 2012 - David_T notes mirror mine. Would add this bottling is running out of steam, so drink soon. Died quickly on the table too, but raspberry and mineral dominated. B-/85 = 50/5/10/7/7/6

(L'Ostal Cazes Minervois Estibals, Languedoc) Jean-Michel Cazes of Château Lynch-Bages is one of many outsiders who has recently been lured to southwest France by its ideal terroirs and Mediterranean climate. Now, his team is making one of Languedoc’s finest wines, a blend of mostly Syrah and Grenache, with a little Carignane. It’s a fistful of fruit—a sweet, berry nose tinged with violet and pungent garrigue accompanied by terroir-related notes of lavender, thyme, rosemary, and wild scrub. Unlike so many Minervois blends that disappoint you with weak, plodding flavors or coarse, drying tannins, this wine grabs you from the start with snappy, lush, juicy blackberry flavors, floating on the palate with freshness and elegance. Your staff will love its food-flexibility: wood-roasted red meats, cassoulets, truffles, and wild mushrooms are obvious choices, yet it’s soft enough for grilled tuna or salmon. Hot Picks
