June 19, 2023 - Château Haut-Brion and Château La Mission Haut-Brion Tasting and Dinner (Winefield's Auctioneers, Amsterdam, NL): Beautifully evolved, rich colour; immense aromatic richness reflecting the warm vintage but still understated and almost shy, creamy lemon; in spite of weight and age, the palate retains all its freshness and unmistakeable harmony, like a dry Sauternes; salty oak on the rich and flowing finish.

December 18, 2020 - Golden amber colour. Bq started w oak, citrus and fino-like, but changed later to caramel, sauvignon blanc and cognac. Crystal clear acidity, medium+ body, very clean aftertaste w bitter orange peel. Very fine balance. It's a top quality wine, but we have kept it too long, alas!

July 2, 2019 - excellent - initially I though a hint of oxidation, but everything came together very well. lots of depth. Long life ahead.

January 5, 2019 - This wine took a peculiar journey throughout the entire evening. Initially, I really enjoyed the citrus, toast, and caramel aromas and flavors, as the wine seemed to have matured nicely. But with time in the glass, it took on a dominating Cognac-like scent, and the wine appeared to lose some weight. Certainly a drinkable wine, but not as impressive as one would expect for a wine with this pedigree.

January 5, 2019 - While I do like it for its interesting personality, I find it marginally disappointing for Haut-Brion Blanc. It’s not oxidized but the color is dark and deepens further with exposure to air. The best part is its depth of flavor and palate impact. There’s some caramel, orange peel and wax and my perceptive guests detect a hint of cognac. No fading and no development over a couple of hours Unfortunately, it still adds up to something fairly simple. Not nearly as interesting as the 1971 version we had a couple of months ago. Could it benefit from even more time?
