February 18, 2023 - Impressive and still quite dense in sweetness and fruit. Starting to show some complexity after 1 hour of decanting. Lovely wine and it will probably not be better than it is right now.

December 24, 2021 - Lovely and still dense in its sweetness but it has opened up very nicely and is clearly ready to drink.
Showing nice florals but also still some sweet fruit. Very nice to drink but for me still in a medium drinking stage as I would like it to gain a bit more complexity.
Still, a very nice wine! -

October 28, 2018 - Dark almost purple. I was reminded this is 16%. Tasted on the pour and then drank after about 75 mins. Clear rim highlighting the alcohol. Nose full of raisins, some tobacco, wet earth. After some air the chocolate notes came out. Palate of chocolate cherries and some menthol. Still some burn on the backend. Was hoping for a bit more secondaries. Definitely better with food...

December 10, 2016 - UWS 2016 End of year dinner (@ CdW and KvdK): The bouquet is a bit stinky; very mature, with celery and lovage. Special. On the palate overripe dark berries, an ok balance between acidity and sweetness, but also oxidized impressions. Not sure if this is a flawless bottle. No score.

November 25, 2015 - My first bottle 5 years ago led me mistakenly to believe this was one of those late 90s new age, insipid amarone that have flooded the market. Two years later, a bottle showed more promise and complexity.
At 11 years, the Quintarelli training is beginning to show, and that means that while the Marion is a bit fruit forward, it is definitley made in the traditional amarone style. The nose is a heavy dose of chocolate, smoke, wet, dark earth, a hint of raisin, and some tobacco.
The palate delivers some real delights -- BUT even after 1 1/12 hours in a magnum decanter, the alcohol edge remained at the back end. Not atypical of amarone. And it was decidedly better than many of the other contenders. Having said that, there was a strange predominance of chocolate and not raisin on or tobacco on the palate, an almost thick viscosity of dual chocolate and pruned notes instead of a well- defined melange of raisin, chocolate, tar, tobacco, prune and dark red cherry that the best amarone display.
This is worth watching over the next few years. Well made but I am guessing that the complexity will not increase greatly. So at 1/3-1/4 the price of the truly greats, Quintarelli and DalForno Romano, it is a good investment, along with the better Bertani vintages.
