January 7, 2020 - Takes a few hours to open up, but when it does, it reveals lovely strawberry and blackberry fruit, along with rose petal, bitter chocolate, and a touch of tar. Palate is silky but with substantial tannins left to resolve. Medium-plus finish. Lovely medium to medium-plus acidity. A long time left before its peak.

July 4, 2017 - Outstanding though understated, not leaping from the glass, but taking some time and coaxing. Allowed to breathe in glass 1 hour before tasting. Clear deep blood-ruby red color. Complex bouquet of roses, liqueurs of red cherry and raspberry, potpourri, stony red soil, juniper berry, lavender, wintergreen, lapsang souchong, and leather. Tart on the palate with mouth-coating tannins, balanced, seamless, full body, very food friendly. Some astringency and bitter quinine on the finish, but these improved after a few hours. Held up fine under vacuum stopper in refrigerator for 4 days. Apparently 1995 was not the best vintage for Piedmont. I slightly preferred the normale blended vineyard bottling, tasted last winter, to this single vineyard bottle.

January 12, 2017 - Expressive modern feeling nose displaying sweet dark fruit, dark cherry, plum, still noticeable oak/vanilla, cedar, dark fruit, leather, sweet spices and earth. Very good concentration, the palate is slightly flat, noticeable but none obtrusive tannins, medium acidity and a medium finish.

February 22, 2016 - Among all the Gajas tonight, it did not stand out unfortunately. Still young. Nose was pretty with flowers, prunes and plums. Palate was tight as it was only opened for 2 hours. Give this 8-10 more years.

August 20, 2015 - Dark purple in the glass. Dense black fruit and violets on the nose. More dark berries and purple stone fruit, clove, cedar, rose petals, and perfumed graphite on the palate. This needs another 5-10 years of cellar time, but it had to be popped this weekend. Cheers, Dad (JKL).
