September 8, 2013 - From the cellar of Hugh Johnson at Saling Hall that was auctioned earlier this year at Sworders. AP 3 07. Very lively, youthful appearance; discreet nose, subtle, fruit of peach, ripe lemon and bitter orange, herbs, hints of wax, smoky slate and flowers; the palate is quite ripe (as is to be expected from a 2006) but there is nice balancing acidity, although the flavours are relatively light with a mature waxiness and fruit of apple and peach; adequate length. A lovely drink but it does not completely escape the difficulties of the vintage and the energy is slightly low; not built for the long term.

June 1, 2010 - Weekday treat at Jade Palace (Jade Palace, Forum Galleria): Lovely example. All the ripeness of the 2006 vintage, nicely tempered by Egon Muller's classic balance and cut. Lovely nose, fleeting petrol droplets, white flowers, poutpourri, pineapple, orange and, with time in the decanter, some honeysuckle and nectar notes. Superb balance on the palate, fresh, incredibly integrated, so that the wine slid down the mouth in a complete whole, with nuances of minerality, pineapples, apples, starfruit, honey sea-coconut, lychee, more honeyed tones and into the long finish, fruity, flowery, chamomile tones. Expressive for a young Egon Muller, a bit sweet for a Spat, yet so well-packaged that it came across all balanced and poised, with lots of focus. Really went down beautifully - this was doing that incredible balancing act between fruit and acid that the very best German Rieslings display.

June 1, 2010 - A not so simple night (Jade Seafood At forum): Beautiful scents of white florals, chamomile tea, organic white tea, lychees, pineapples and dash of sour plum powder. Delicious drinking with balance and coming somewhere in between a spat and auslese. There is ripeness yet enough acidity to make it a rounded throat sliding drink. Flawless and excellent example of a german riesling.
