November 5, 2023 - Unfortunately the cork broke into pieces, I had to push it down and had to decant much more aggressively than I wanted to with such an old wine Taking that into account, the wine still was very good. At first it smelled quite intensively like „Sauerbraten“ for a few minutes, which turned into a much more subtile (and nicer) gamey smell. The fruit (berries and a gentle hint of sweet cherry) and acidity was good but even under the given circumstances I would assume, that the wine peaked probably 2-3 years earlier. Nevertheless this is a great wine at its current age, but it would have been even better with a few years less (and a Durand Corkscrew…)

February 20, 2020 - That was memorable maybe due to not having any expectations or maybe it was a great match with the tender meat we were having. Or maybe this was just at the peak of its lifetime. No matter the 2002 "R" is an elegant wine with a silky texture showing a compelling mix of fresh and dried red berries, a charming gamey undertone on its nose. Bright and persisting on its long finish.

May 11, 2019 - Light medium red with orange light yellow hue; fresh raspberry nose, some sweetness, 17 years of age does not show! Fresh, light, good body, tasty long aftertaste; remarkable wine; a first for older-aged German Spätburgunder, was told Rebholz was good, true; a very remarkable wine
