  June 17, 2022 - PNP. Pristine cork, moderate sediment. Accidentally bought these at auction thinking it was the Cabernet. Apparently this is a fairly rare bottling of merlot. Flavors of nicely aged claret, red fruit, bit of roasted tomato, more savory. Silky tannins, enough acidity, medium body. 13.5% ABV. Still has life, but time to drink up.

  May 8, 2010 - I opened this for Mother's Day dinner 2010 to serve with lobster and filet that I bar-b-que'd and it was lovely. Still a nice dark red, a bit of a purple hue and lovely black fruit on the nose. Blackberry, dark cherry, a bit of forest floor and mineral and a medium finish. If you are lucky enough to have some of this wine from the only year Ch Montelena bottled a merlot, I suggest you drink it soon. It did get a bit tired after a couple of hours, but we enjoyed it immensely and bought some more when we were at CM recently.

  June 19, 2009 - Wonderful bright cherry, raspberry and french oak flavors with hints of earth and eucalyptus. Med-light body with nice acidity and well-integrated tannins. Very enjoyable wine. Drank while watching the movie "Bottle Shock", so maybe that had something to do with it.
