December 22, 2017 - Dinner with old friends (Thai Pothong restaurant, Newtown, Sydney): Deep ruby with significant bricking. Very restrained nose showing tertiary development in the bottle. Lovely, elegant wine of medium body and medium length. Classic Coonawarra cabernet with notes of eucalyptus.

January 27, 2015 - Deep ruby in colour, still looks quite young. Very earthy nose, barnyard. Blackcurrant, spice, vegetal undertones and quite savoury on the palate with an acidic backbone. Finishes long and savoury with silky smooth tannins. Can it get better? Maybe.

September 11, 2013 - Tasted this wine at Katnook Cabernet Masterclass by Wayne Stehbens.
This wine is reddish brown in colour. Strong nose with a good structure. Smooth entry in the palate with high alcohol level. Strong mid-palate due to the tannins holding well.
The wine maker explained that this wine was made in a difficult year and this explains partially why this wine is different from the others in the vertical. -

February 1, 2013 - Stinky on the nose, maybe slight Brett, but did reduce over opening. Classic coonawarra cab.

October 7, 2005 - Not decanted. Had over the course of an evening. Colour medium/dark red. Upon initial opening not much on the nose, but it did begin to display a dominant methanol/eucalyptus aroma, with hints of berry fruit and vanilla oak in the background as the night progressed. The wine had a good structure and was very smooth (my wife commented how slurpable it was!), with hints of chocolate and dark fruits coming through in the palate. Fruit and oak appeared in balance and the wine had soft/fine tannins, and had a medium length finish.
Jeremy Oliver gave this release 95 points in his 2005 annual. Although a very good example of Coonawarra Cabernet, and I would be happy to drink this any night of the week, the wine didn’t get this high for me (it just didn’t shout out loud enough “Look at Me!”). Perhaps we just opened it too early as JO’s suggested drinking window is 2007-11. Hopefully it is just in a phase and it will improve over the next couple of years. Will try another bottle in 1 year to see if this is the case.
