June 11, 2012 - Still big and young, this seems to have plenty of life left. Very dark in color. Dark fruits and a bit of bacon and sweet herbs on the nose. On the palate, the initial impression is "rich". This evaporates away a bit as an iodine minerality comes toward the front. While on a bad day, or with a bad bottle, this could approach "bitter", with a good bottle and the right food pairing, this serves to add a bit of lift to this wine. Finish is surprisingly long if not particularly lush.
