Community Tasting Notes 6

December 25, 2015 - Upgraded from prior tasting in May. This particular bottle was a Stunner, and probably the wine of the night with Christmas eve meal of Ham, Au gratin potatoes, Kale salad, and the fixin's... too much beauty in one glass. Only my third Grand Cru Burgundy, the ruby red center, was some light bricking to the outer. Semi- translucent, and great shine. Wonderful Floral aromatics from this glass, with only a hint of barnyard funk that was gone in no time.... The clarity of fruit in this bottle is amazing, medium bodied, but a wonderful finish. Really enjoyed this Burgundy, with some age to it.

May 24, 2015 - Opened to some earth, funk, and mild fruit.. opened up over an hour glass decant. Funk blew off, and more fruit black cherry presented itself. My first premier cru burgundy, this was more about the experience. This has an interesting mid-palate with a very asian, hoisin sauce, and meaty taste to it. Definitely has a strong acidity level, and low tannins. Coating the palate. Was very food friendly, but once this opened up, I enjoyed drinking on it's own.

August 2, 2014 - Clean spirited and very monolithic pillar of strong red fruits with very good body. Amazing ly rich for the vintage. Drinking well now

July 14, 2014 - Dinner at Tao Seafood (Tao Seafood, Asia Square): I somehow find it difficult to fall in love with Girardin wines. At the top-end, like this bottle and say the Bonnes Mares or Corton-Charlie, they are clearly very good, well-crafted examples, but they sometimes come across a bit over-wrought, lacking some of the effortless character that marks the very best of Burgundy for me. This particular bottle was really enjoyable though, with the slimmer lines of the 2000 vintage perhaps marrying well with the more extracted tones of Girardin’s winemaking. It had a lovely nose, very red-fruited, with cherries and raspberries packed together with earth tones, little meat accents and sweet toasty spice. A classic Close de Beze bouquet. The palate was really quite good. It was still rather youthful, still with a primary edge to it, but there was a very pleasing sense of clarity, even purity to its rich tones of red cherries and berries. There was solid depth to this, clearly Grand Cru quality, and it was nice and very fresh too, finishing with a little bite of juicy acidity and some tannins. There was a slight shade of oaky woodiness right at the end, but it was barely a distraction. I actually found this very enjoyable, more so than many of the other wines on the night. It has some way to go as well, and should be quite lovely in another 2-3 years or so.

August 24, 2010 - The fruit wasn't as pure as the bottle earlier this year; a touch of funk and earthiness has crept in. Still enjoyable, but I would hold for a year or two.
