Not a cumbersome elephant, not even a little sparrow, but an agile gazelle. Definitely a fresh, distinctive and charming Gavi from biodinamically-grown cortese grapes and aged in big acacia barrels.

Strange woodsy smell and very odd mouthfeel made me think there'd been some secondary fermentation in the bottle. But I let it sit in the fridge for 12 hours. Weird smell died down, spiced apple fruit jumped up. Lightly honeyed pear with some crisp green apple bite in the mouth. And then this hyper-delayed tannic tingle that swelled into a distinctly hazelnut flavor. Quite bizarre. But not unpleasant. I don't know what 'chestnut aging' refers to below (antique method for aging vin santo?) but the importer claims the "the of oak is limited to large, successively-used barrels of traditional provenance." It's funny wood to be sure. But I think the nuttiness has to do with time on the lees. Interesting but this one is a bit of work.
