Community Tasting Notes 10

March 28, 2016 - Ripe, yet mature somewhat sappy dark fruit on the nose. Silky in the mouth. Definitely Burgundian. In a great spot now.

August 21, 2015 - The cork was a little wet so maybe there was an issue, but wine was a pruney like an overripe zinfandel. Was not true of the last bottle seven or eight years ago.

August 6, 2012 - Really fresh and showing much younger than its age. This is all cherry and cranberry fruit and while it may not come across as thick as Calera sometimes does on release, it's not showing any tertiary flavors either - I probably would have guessed it 10 years younger, easily. Funny considering that the 1992 has had a totally mature profile for years now. This has the slightest twist of the citrus-like acidity on the back end that I almost always find in Calera's wines and age may have smoothed out its edges some, but for the most part it's about pure, fresh berry fruit.

April 4, 2010 - Amazing wine... dark cranberry fruit - nice aromas - still drinking very well as a smooth older burgundy.

April 19, 2009 - Purchased directly from the winery. Opened for lunch and consumed over the afternoon, not decanted, out of the gate the wine showed some orange at the edges, with very nice aromatics, but with a hint of age/oxidation on the palate. With time, the wine actually gained in strength and became more compelling. With strawberry in the nose, strawberries and earth flavors. At first, a little muddy flavored, the wine gained precision and sweetness, if not complexity, with air. Nice old school wine.
