Community Tasting Notes 4

April 10, 2022 - I’ve been a big fan of this wine over the years, but this bottle is not up to past tastings. Very mature. Ruby color that shows some amber. Sweet fruit with a bit of VA on the nose. Warm earth. Mature cherries, somewhat warm and rustic palate. Finish is missing a bit in the middle. Still, it’s very enjoyable. Just not at the level of other bottles but got stronger with air. I’m betting that the remaining bottles are similar to previous tastings. (89)

June 26, 2021 - So I have always thought this one of the better wines I have tasted from this vintage. This bottle will do nothing to change my mind. Ruby color with a maturing rim. The nose is filled with mature cherry fruit, earth and a hint of oak spice. No green meanies. Savory. Medium palate that is complex while retaining refreshing acidity. Pretty perfect now. The balance is spot on. Won’t die but I can’t see it getting much better. A real treat. This is burgundy true and blue. (93)

October 3, 2011 - A really good 2004. Light ruby color that is followed by a juicy berry and stone tinged nose. No meanies here. Juicy (which is incredible for the vintage) balanced palate that has a decent if not memorable finish. I bought this on a lark because I like Pommard and I love Rosenthal. One of my favorite wines of the vintage. (92)

November 23, 2009 - Light ruby / rose color to pink at rim. Deep black and red summer berry nose – strawberries and black raspberries – framed by a deep and satisfying (and not at all green) earthiness and a hint of coffee. In fact, this shows perfect fruit maturity – almost deep fruit flavors. A lovely flavor burst on entry that is followed up by a rich (for the vintage), full and explosive flavor profile all wrapped in a medium to light bodied package. Save the slightest hint of greenness on the finish (and I mean slight), I never would place this as an ’04. Still, along with the great wines of Leroy, this very well may be one of my favorites of the vintage. First recent bottle from this producer and I just love it. Drinking well today and for 10 more years. (92)
