August 21, 2011 - The notes below are spot on, even after 3 additional years in bottle. Subtlety is the key here, with primary notes of apples and wet stone followed by hints of oak toast and honey / toffee, like a "bit o honey" candy. Some floral notes as well. Palate is equally subdued but the oak spice figures more prominently. Flavors of baked apples and applesauce with hints of pear, banana, and honey coated beeswax. Good minerality while it lasts. Probably the most complex wine lacking in flavor intensity I have ever tried. Length and finish are almost non-existent. Not terribly high in acid and most of the structure comes from its time in oak.
It is what it is, a simple white meant for simple fare. Pair it with light cheeses such as Manchego, poach an egg over a bed of leafy greens, or as CHMD suggests, serve as an aperitif to warm up the palate. Don't expect this to shine on it's own merits. Cost helps to balance the lack of intensity that can be found in other Viura based wines, for an overall B rating. -

September 12, 2008 - Aromatically pleasant, but lacks depth and finish is short. Very dry. Good QPR, recommended as aperitif.

May 22, 2008 - Made from 100% Viura. Color of shiny pale straw, 12% alc/vol. Aromas and flavors of granny smith apples, and a surprisingly long finish. Unoaked chardonnay lovers would enjoy this. Medium bodied, well balanced.

January 2009 (link)(Montecillo Rioja Blanco) This elegant Spanish white, made with the Viura grape, is clean and fresh, with notes of ripe Bosc and Asian pear, citrus, and honey. Medium-bodied and creamy, it is ideal for showcasing grilled fish or shellfish dishes or to serve with cheese plates or tapas. Hot Picks
