May 21, 2020 - Last bottle. Trending downhill. Still has good fruit, grip, and earthiness, but starting to get a hint of a pruney note. Time to drink these.

May 5, 2020 - Popped, poured, consumed over next 2 hours. Fruit is receding, chalky tannin still holding strong, non fruit flavors emerging, which I usually like, but based on this bottle, I’d say it hasn’t aged that well and seems to be on the decline.

April 15, 2020 - in looking back at my last CT Note (from 2013) I noted it was bottle #10 from the case and showed best! ... well hard for me to recall that taste, but I believe I can safely say this one showed even better.
I am happy to see how well this wine is aging, getting softer, more plush but with plenty of tannins to frame the very nice Sour Cherry fruit. Some secondary notes of underbrush, but still a fair amount of oak. Score given to reflect the QPR - which was great as this was from Premier Cru

December 9, 2019 - Picture book Chianti from Fontodi, incredibly young right now. Bouquet of sour cherries, palisander and nuts. The palate is slightly dominated by fresh acidity, the tannins are still demanding but fine and after all those years starting to integrate. Medium to full bodied it has quite an aftertaste which lingers for 40 seconds or more. Should easily hold for another decade.

June 6, 2019 - The evolution of this wine has been amazing. Still very purple at the core with little or no browning at the edges for 13 years.

Sweet perfume of ripe florals, pipe tobacco, and faint forest berry fruit is soft and welcoming on the nose.

Lots of red fruit up front, with black and red cherry at the forefront and faint cranberry and sour cherry emerging mid-palette. Earthy nuances along with saddle leather/sandalwood also come in play on the finish where silky finish embodies more red cherry fruit. On drawback would be the slightly dry tannins on the finish.

Overall, the wine has shed its baby fat. The dense and muscular wine of its youth has now evolved into a more delicate and elegant frame showing lots of secondary characteristics.
I have one bottle left that I will drink in 2021.

(FONTODI Chianti Classico) 375 Dear Friends, I know it's taboo to have bottles of wine rolling around in your car but many of the new models on the market have interesting innovations such as temperature controlled glove boxes and attachable/electric chill boxes that can be stored behind the passenger seat. I have the perfect accompaniment to just such an innovation: Fontodi's 2006 Chianti Classico in half bottles. This is the ultimate picnic wine for the on-the-fly gourmand/vinophile - it is small and easily toted to inaccessible picnic locations such as Cala Blanca on Ibiza or the top of the 7th Heaven Express at Blackcomb (it will fit nicely into the new cooled glove box of a car as well). While small in size, there is no sacrifice of quality here - this will satisfy any discerning palate with a top-tier beverage in 375ml format instead of the usual mass-marketed selection. In addition, Chianti Classico pairs with a variety of foods so not to worry if you are unaware of what they may be serving at the Telluride mid-mountain lodge - you will be drinking in style if you stash one of these in your parka. For those of you that wish to stay closer to home, this makes for a perfect choice when you can't seem to find anything in the cellar or a full 750ml is too much to open. From a great vintage, this organically produced 2006 Chianti Classico delivers a mouthful of fruit, extract, tannin and length - it is far closer to a Riserva (as it usually is) but the extra oomph from 2006 is immediately apparent: Good things do come in small packages. ONE SHIPMENT ONLY - Fontodi is sold out of small format 2006 and hardly any 375ml's came to the US: 2006 Fontodi Chianti Classico 375ml Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Italy3467

(Fontodi Chianti Classico) Slightly withdrawn but attractive fruit on the nose, well defined, with a nicely structured palate. Defined, with a good texture, a little violet fruit, good tannins and fresh, balanced acidity. This has a lovely, juicy character and should give plenty of pleasure.
