December 17, 2010 - NC Cindy Offline w/ WIM and SCKen (WineKnurd's House, Durham NC): Decanted and compared to the 04 Verbena Brunello. Classic BdM nose and palate; rustic earth, black cherries, some spice and hints of barnyard funk and copper penny. Of course the acidity is there and the structure and mouthfeel were good, maybe a bit smoother than some other BdM's. The 04 was one step higher in terms of depth and length, where the 03 seemed to lack the same concentration of flavors, tannins, and "oomph" on the finish than its younger brother. Not surprising; 2004 was an excellent vintage in Tuscany. On its own though its a very enjoyable wine. Overall: B+
