Community Tasting Notes 13

March 13, 2022 - Double decanted and drunk at Wu’s. Ruby/garnet robe with bricking on rim. The nose offers aromas of forest floor, plum skin, and intriguing dried flower notes. The palate is more claret and tertiary than blockbuster and still features fine acidity and drive over the resolves tannic structure. Lovely with Peking duck at Wu’s. Strong re-buy. Fine bottle, indeed.

January 31, 2022 - Amazing showing for this last bottle.
Still nice fruit to accompany a complete and quite complex array of aromas.
Still bright and balanced with none of the excess many wine drinkers associate with this gape variety. Another great sign of the aging potential of these wines.

November 4, 2021 - Similar to my 10/11/20 TN. Again, cork disintegrated. Lighter colored with slightly orange rim. Initially a bit musty and slightly oxidized, but the cork issue caused decanting and filtering, so by the time this was served (close to an hour) it really opened up. Excellent and intriguing brambleberry and raspberry components with some cedar and earth. Remarkable richness especially considering the age and color! Still got some acid on the finish, but we were amazed and please about how drinkable this was. Certainly mature +, but well stored bottles should still be delightful for another year or two.
BTW - this was the Belloni, not the Wood Road bottling...

May 23, 2021 - Popped (cork intact) and poured...light in color...candied fruit with a short, pleasant finish...a fun drink.

October 11, 2020 - Tough competition - this was tasted between the 1977 and 1978 Lytton Springs Zins. Cork somewhat disintegrated but fished out all the pieces and chose not to decant after an initial sip. Decent structure and raspberry fruit - but this reminded me a little bit of a nice claret from an OK Right Band Bordeaux vintage. Still had some power on the palate with a mix of dustiness and maybe a little eucalyptus. medium to short finish, but still had nice balance - maybe a touch more acidity than expected. A nice wine on the back side of mature.
