Community Tasting Notes 57

November 24, 2017 - Rich, ripe Paso Rhone with lots of everything. A lot of oak, but is fully integrated. Didn't really notice the 15.8% alc. Not much varietal distinctiveness but deep and concentrated and a hedonistic pleasure. Not really a style I seek out, but this is very enjoyable at this stage for my centrist palate. I don't know what this tasted like in its youth, but the 2013 end of drinking window is way too conservative - based on this sample size of one bottle, this will go another 5 years and is squarely in its prime window right now.

January 7, 2017 - Big in all the right places. Deliciously rich.

November 12, 2016 - 70% syrah/24% grenache/6% mouvedre. 15.8% alcohol. Dark purple color. The expressive nose projects raspberry and cotton candy without swirling, and plums, dark cherry, with violets when swirled. Plum, dark cherry, smoke, cinnamon, gingerbread, and Necco wafer coat the palate. Structurally, there is some alcoholic heat, but it does not dominate the wine. The hedonistic fruit, paired with low acidity, creates a plush mouthfeel. Overall, I don't know that I would want to drink this every night, but it fit perfectly tonight. I wanted something that was fruit-packed, but not gloppy, with a warming profile, so in essence, I wanted the wine equivalent of a black lab. This delivered.

August 21, 2015 - Matured nicely, still big. Far from end of life
