Community Tasting Notes 12

May 16, 2020 - Dark gold/bronze in the glass - the difference in color between this and the Bize and Lamy is pretty marked.

Tropical fruits on the nose here - pineapple? Either way, a great nose that you can savor at length.

Rich and expansive on the palate - really spreads out and covers every nook & cranny. I'm getting towards the end of a case I bought on release, and this has been a pretty cool wine to track as it has evolved over the past two decades. The funny thing is, at 20 years of age this shows no signs of tiring either. Impressive wine.

August 24, 2019 - Always an interesting bottle, if not what you would normally expect from a Macon. In some ways, more reminiscent of a Chardonnay by Tissot from the Jura with it's slightly oxidative palate.

Dry and full-bodied. I wouldn't necessarily say delicious, but interesting and thought provoking.

September 25, 2017 - Rich and well concentrated, but less complex and more one-dimensional vs other vintages recently tasted.

January 30, 2016 - Gold/bronze in the glass (darker than the Nikolaihof I just tried); also with an oxidative note on the nose.

Dry and taut on the palate; decent persistence, medium-bodied. Not bad, although as I probably have observed in the past, not the typical flavor profile one usually expects from a Macon Chardonnay. Like the Nikolaihof, more interesting than delicious.

March 8, 2014 - A day 2 note from a bottle opened last night at Talula's Table (which is certainly one of the best BYOB experiences in the Philly area) - this was paired last night with it's sibling from 2002.

Color is a bronze/gold; ripe nose, almost but not quite tropical fruited.

Full-bodied for a white, dry on the palate - this was an excellent match last night with a bow tie pasta dish finished with blue crab & cabbage, but tonight I've been drinking some lighter wines, and this is a tough transition.

That said, certainly an interesting interpretation of Chardonnay.
