Community Tasting Notes 5

April 5, 2021 - A curiosity - one vintage of Grenache tasted by a few Beaux Freres listees. When young, luscious sweet fruit with no Gigondas edge. In old age, color persists, sweet cinnamon spice nose, soft, sweet lush fruit on entry, then dried oregano heat. The sweet dry heat cannot be compared to any wine I've tasted, too sweet? Too hot? Too spicy? A preserved relic from 2006.

June 29, 2019 - The label was a heck of a lot more worn than the wine! This was tasted alongside a 2013 BF Pinot and to me was hands-down the winner between the two. I almost think there was a slight bit of VA with the pinot. This one was delicious and had some wildflower on the nose and palate. Grape stem notes and a purple fruit type of thing here with a little bit of chocolate in the middle. Finished with rounded edges. I think the best years of this wine are behind it, but it was definitely not gone.

January 28, 2014 - One of the best nose I've smelled. Uniquely soda like (cherry cola, root beer, very distinct and persistent. Some aging color. On the palate, bright and complex. Good fruit and terroir. Probaly good for another 3-5 years

September 29, 2011 - Winery visit- 9/8. Black cherry notes with creamy vanilla and wood notes thoughout. Fruit and fennil notes on the finish. A tad astringent.

June 19, 2009 - Showing a ruby core with a light red rose rim at the edge of the glass. Scents of moist potting soil, clay, and candied red fruits with a lingering note of moth balls. In the mouth this medium bodied wine is plush and gives way to ripe red strawberries, raspberries, minerals, and a light thrust of red Twizzlers that lingers lightly on the palate. This has been quite the experience, but I must admit that I am CRUSHED that Mike Etzel has given up making his rose for this more expensive bottling.
