January 3, 2015 - Find more from this vintner.

December 8, 2012 - Smells true to Syrah, nice pepper, smokiness and ripe cherries coming through. The pepper comes through on the pallet quite strongly with red ripe fruit, cherries and raspberries, a little smoke and charcoal, also a medium amount of acidity and a good tannin structure. It lacks a little roundness for me, quite piercing the way it attacks my mid pallet And the finish lingers but feels one dimensional. I have never been a great Syrah fan, but wanted to try this one because the claret was delicious. This was still a good wine, but not worth the price.

January 7, 2012 - Better than a good nose, full of fruit. Pleasantly full bodied; an easy drinker. Great finish. Everybody liked this one.

August 15, 2011 - Popped and poured. Virtually opaque red-black color. Very spicy nose with mixed fruit and some oak. A bit lighter on the palate than prior bottles and not as richly fruity but still a potent syrah nonetheless with good acidity and virtually no tannins. This has calmed down significantly over the past year or so. Drink up.

November 25, 2010 - Decanted for an hour; ate with grilled steak. Dark garnet color. Nose had really opened up: dark cherries and some pepper. Really smooth on the palate. Dark red & black fruit, with a spicy; long finish. Great wine.

(Tyrus Evan Syrah Del Rio Vineyard) It’s curious that Ken Wright, who produces perhaps the most subtle, refined Pinot Noirs in the Willamette Valley, can make one of the biggest, blackest, burliest, spiciest Syrahs on the West Coast. The beauty of it is, of course, that this wine is not without refinement—the purple-plum and lingonberry-jam flavors flow in velvety smooth layers, and the thickly hewn texture is as svelte as it is muscular—displaying a compacted concentration and almost effortless sense of proportion. Southern Oregon is the Real Deal
