Community Tasting Notes 5

July 30, 2019 - Opened one hour in advance. Fragrant aroma of menthol and cassis. Deep, rich flavors of black fruit, tobacco. Complex finish includes licorice, plum, and (eventually) prune. This is in its prime and drinking beautifully. Well structured, firm backbone, complex, deep bass notes. That said, some astringency and palate fatigue do set in over time. Nothing serious, but it knocks my initial score down by a couple of points.

January 29, 2011 - Ruby to rust colored, earthy nose with red fruit behind; light bodied, red fruit and earthy palette. Held this for a year and a half just to see what would happen to a moderately priced Morgon over time from a not-stellar vintage. Have to say it was a good idea to hold it, i like this much more now than when it came out. subtle and mellow versus tart and edgy upon release.

May 7, 2010 - Typically light Gamay color. Very earthy nose, smells like Burgundy. Tart cherry fruit. This has gained some much needed flesh over the past 6 months and is now at least good, but I would not repurchase.

November 9, 2009 - Light. Pleasant floral Gamay nose, but thin, tart cherry fruit and harsh licorice. Not very good, in fact the most disappointing Cru Beaujolais I've had in some time.

April 9, 2009 - Nose of red fruit, baking spices and flowers. Quite tart at this stage with dark red cherry fruit and a bit of grip. The body is a little light and the finish a little short. It definitely drinks well now with about a bit of air. Not sure if it's worth holding.
