August 2, 2016 - Another superb Clos Saint-Marc from Pillot. Zesty, pure and linear with some real whoomph and complexity on the palate and a long finish; who can ask for more than that? This wine comes from a small Clos of ancient vines at the top of Les Vergers (100+ years old) and it shows in the richness, minerality, mouth feel and length. What sets Pillot's wines apart from other Chassagnes is the lemony backbone and this does require some time to integrate and harmonise, but with 8 years under it's belt this wine really does begin to sing. I've had a lot of Clos Saint-Marc's over the years and have never had an issue with premox either. Maybe I have just been lucky (although having written this you can guarantee the next one will be duff!). Estimated maturity: 2015-2022

April 4, 2015 - No premox. Very clean pure white and yellow fruits. Intense minerality and refreshing acidity. Still very young. Should be be magical in a few years.

July 22, 2013 - Light yellow in color, little or no traces of new oak, ripe citrus fruit with just a hint of tropical fruit. Medium plus palate with good attack, very good purity and good acidity. Very good for its price and level and will get better when the fruit subsides a little.

September 14, 2012 - "Welcome Back, Runny" Dinner (St. George Restaurant, Hullett House, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong): Silver-green gold colour. Nose is crushed rocks, flint, almost slate, very clean and precise. Palate is sharp cut acidity but followed by lovely light melted unsalted butter…..dry chalky finish. Some resonance, which increases with time in the glass. Very enjoyable.

June 3, 2012 - Stripped back, linear intense and compact. This is a wine crammed with all sorts of geological matter. It is tight and works within a narrow channel but there's terrific material here and it is laden with chalk and possesses masses of dry extract on the finish.
