January 16, 2023 - Upon opening this was super tight, so I decanted for about 30 minutes before dinner. Wine opened up nicely with blue fruits and well integrated tannins. Very smooth. Paired beautifully with lamb shoulder and root vegetables. I would recommend a short decant. I was assuming that this wine would be at or beyond its peak, but I think I will hold my last bottle for another year to see if it continues to develop.

August 4, 2022 - Showing great at 15 years of age. Definite Northern Rhône inspired. Blackberry, dark plum with a good sense of terroir earthiness. Very enjoyable wine. Likely at peak, but o suspect could last for 5+ more years

May 4, 2021 - Decanted for an hour prior to service. In the glass, medium-dark purple at the rim, fading to opaque maroon-black at the core. On the nose, raspberries, blackberries, and hints of damp earth and cinnamon. On the palate, leading with plums, blueberries, and blackberries, but not at all the blackberry liqueur I was expecting; more brambly and meaty, leans much more Rhone, and that's all to the good. Structured tannins on a moderately long finish. Perfectly drinkable now, but I think another five years may yield upside.

October 1, 2020 - Still-strong dark garnet, with strong tears. Quite varietal nose of Syrah, more than a little reminiscent of a Northern Rhone wine. In both nose and mouth, has a the smoky, bacon fat, meaty flavors that make such wines so attractive. Most tannins are resolved, so this is probably at peak, but no signs of decline. Plenty long on the finish. Very nice. 5-13-16-8: 92/100.

January 14, 2018 - Drank this via coravin over the coarse of > 1 year. I don't think that the wine changed on me, but my take on it changed. This is definitely big & California, but underneath is a nod to Northern Rhone - definitely Syrah.
It may be the age, but the oak was perfectly applied. There was a slight streak of graphite along w/ dusty, ripe tannins. Occasionally, a slight amount of heat came through.
All in all, this was very respectable & nicely done.
