Community Tasting Notes 8

June 8, 2021 - Deep and almost opaque core, some secondary development on the nose, olive, earth and smoke intermix with black Cherry and raspberry.
Supple and silky mouthfeel, with intensity builds up on palate to show blackcurrant, plum, vanilla and toast. Good structure with balance acidity. Still has plenty of chewy tannins and end with a nice long finish.

Revisit this wine after 9 years and I find it holding very well and above my expectation for a mid-tier label. But at the same time it lacks the complexity. Probably due to the use of stelvin closure, retain the fruits and structure but restraint its development.

January 3, 2016 - Rich, dark purple colour. Cedar, smoky tobacco notes. Medium length with firm tannins. Some upfront plum and chocolate notes but maybe a bit flat on the mid palate. Still, overall very enjoyable.

  • Softie Does not like this wine:

November 28, 2013 - Dark red fruits including plum on the nose. Chocolate and plum on the palate. Good structure remaining, but the fruit seems a little sour to me - as if it's past its best - which would be surprising for a 2007 under Stelvin from a good Margaret River winery. Probably just not to my taste.

May 12, 2012 - Densely coloured and showing very good intensity. Made from 37% Malbec, 32% Petit Verdot and 31% Merlot, which was quite an interesting blend.
Pop n pour and the wines was still very closed, only showing rich, smooth mouthfeel and sweet cassis fruits. Still pretty tannic and the flavour profile seems not yet integrated to suggest the wines are still young.
However this is a well made wines, minimal use of oak with only 4 months in one and two year old French barriques, but showing rich and pure fruits that reflect a very good terroir.
